This weekend is the Reba retreat. We will stay in town and have time together with no business to accomplish - just prayer, praise, fellowship, food and fun. Rest. Candace is the head planner of this event, as a part of her service on the Fellowship leadership team. She has done a wonderful job, as you probably would have guessed.
In other news, we are leading a small group! We've been meeting for about three months. It is going well. We get together for just one hour per week. No nonsense, no small talk. This isn't the model I would recommend or seek out, but it was the time slot that worked for people. We have nine people including Candace and I. (Ten if Lilia is awake!)
We are doing something like a group Spiritual Direction. This is a great process that we are just getting aquainted with. Two people come with something to share about - something personal about their spiritual life. The rest of us come prepared to listen and pray. That is how we can pull off a quality meeting in one hour.
I have been very thankful for this new type of meeting lately. As other people talk about their own struggles and victories I feel like I am learning a whole lot, and I am able to grow from their experiences. I learn new spiritual practices from the life we share.
Shalom.

Dustin and I recently started leading a small group too (for our brand new church), and we only meet every other week for about an hour and a half. Like you said, not necessarily the format we would've chosen, but it is what it is. Anyhow, we always feel like we are in a time crunch and like there's never enough opportunity for everyone to even speak during our meetings! (We have about twenty people in our group.) But I really like the idea of the way you guys have your group structured. It sounds like it gives everyone in the group a chance to be heard and cared for. It's making me wonder if we could implement something similar in our group. Thanks for the inspiration!
