For mother earth

It's earth day, so I thought I would give one insight into our community life here. It is a green friendly place. People are starting to garden in the public park plots. We have a sister agrarian community called Plow Creek, that sells organic veggies and makes some amazing bread.
Most of the houses in Reba have a compost bin in the back yard. Many have a strip or planter-box for herbs or some such thing. We try to recycle, and Chicago is a good place to live where that is concerned. Most folks walk to work, or else they take public transportation.
When we are sharing meals together, we use real dishes - even at the church potlucks! The food is wholesome. Water is the drink of choice.
We wear reused clothing, drive reused cars, restore old buildings and old bikes. There is life after shopping!

People who get interested in eco-friendly behaviors find a spectrum of faithfulness and I must say that there is still plenty left to do. But it is fun to try.

It is believed that when Jesus' Kingdom comes, we will be working the land and we will see the fruits of our labor. There will be a new earth right here, fully restored and sustained. We're not going to live on clouds. We will live in a vineyard.

Perhaps I have shared this idea before, but I see in Reba Place a sustainable home, with spiritual diversity. Some religious groups are all about spreading the message (one variety of the message) all over - planting wheat on every field. This place has the feel of a homestead, where a family can enjoy all sorts of good things produced in a relatively small plot. You could live your whole life here, where you couldn't live off of a wheat field alone.
