We joined!

Last night we had a covenant service with the Fellowship. It's been a long time coming, but it's official now.
We heard a little teaching about the process of making a covenant. The Bible has a few examples. There is a bit of a story told about what has been done to get people to the place of making a covenant, then vows and then a prayer.
Our story: After a time in NM, we felt called to life in intentional community. Once we sensed the release from our work there in Clovis, we also heard a confirmation that Reba was our destination. We packed up everything and came here.
The process of merging with the community has taken longer than we'd thought - due in no small part to our adding Lilia to the family.
It was mid-April 2008 that we first visited this place.

The vows of our covenant are to keep daily worship, share all that we have with these folks (that includes assets as well as debts), to share our decision making, to be accountable to our brothers and sisters in the community, and to stay put in this community until God calls us elsewhere. To all of that we said Yes.

We had prayers. Our mentors commended us to the community. It was really great. Our small group did a dance together - with a May pole. Pictures below.

Candace and I feel like this move to join is consistent with our journey thus far. We're trying to follow Jesus as faithfully as we can, and listening to the demands of the Gospel. At this point, with the kids and everything, it's hard to imagine giving ourselves more to mission or activism. Not while we have a lot of responsibility at home.

As we made these statements of commitment, I felt great about it. Still do. It just seems like the natural step in our journey. I feel like an integrated being.

I kept trying to think of an appropriate comment to leave here, but erased four or five different options.

But. This is great. And we are excited for/with you.

I'm glad you're in a happy place. You've been led to this for a while.
